TALKS AND DEMONSTRATIONS

Sketching in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean is the favourite topic for talks, of course, but I can also do workshops and demonstrations and show you why sketching your world is so completely different to taking photographs.

For yacht clubs and sailing organisations I do talks or workshops on marine art, illustrating your log book and the challenges of sketching whilst sailing round Cape Horn!

My art workshop ‘menu’ includes: watercolour surgery, how to draw, working from photos, how to paint sea and sky, line and wash, colour mixing, creative doodling and card making, how to keep a sketchbook – anything connected with watercolours and drawing.

WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES

I’m back in the zoom room in October with a series of new workshops and classes, so wherever you are in the world, join me from the comfort of your own home. Winter is a good time to spend some studio time immersed in painting, learning, playing with colours, improving your skills.

ART HOLIDAYS 2026

Sketch and Sail in the Hebrides

There are two Sketch and Sail voyages in 2026. The first is 31st May – 6th in Shetland with Alice Angus and Jane Northcote. I’m doing the second from Barra to Oban 30th August -5th September. Lady of Avenel is a lovely ship and there’s nothing quite like sailing these Scottish islands, sketching as we go and visiting places that the tourists can’t get to. No experience in either sketching or sailing is needed – we’re well looked after and you can participate in sailing the ship as little or as much as you like. Get in touch if you’d like to join us. PRIVATE TUITION

I’m available for small group and individual tuition if you want to get together with a couple of friends, or have a one to one session for help on a particular aspect of your work. Sometimes you just need a few new techniques to get you unstuck and re-inspired.
